Allegro presents Lincoln series

From Staff Reports

Allegro – Baroque and Beyond will close its 40th season with a program of music that Abraham Lincoln would have liked.

“Music in the Lincoln White House” is based on records of pieces that were performed for the 16th president, a music buff, at concerts in the Red Room.

It will be presented as a series of recitals Tuesday and Wednesday in the historic Dr. Jean and Kathleen Kindschi House, 733 E. Plateau Road, which has never before been opened to the public.

The program will be repeated next Thursday at the Jacklin Arts Center in Post Falls.

Featured performers are soprano Darnelle Preston, pianist Yi-chun Chen and Allegro’s artistic director, David Dutton.

Tuesday and Wednesday performances are at 3, 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m. each day, including a tour of the home and refreshments. Tickets are $20, by calling (509) 455-6865 or through www.allegrobaroque.org.

Next Thursday’s performance in Post Falls, at the Old Church, 405 N. Williams St., is free.
