The West Central Market Place is open 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at 1414 W. Broadway.

The market features food grown at Riverfront Farm in West Central Spokane. The farm is a program of Project Hope, which provides alternatives to gang violence and helps young people find ways out of poverty through “green collar” jobs and urban agriculture.

Pilgrim’s Market hosts GMO food lecture

Pilgrim’s Market will host a free lecture on genetically modified foods 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 23 at the store’s education center, 1316 N. Fourth Street, Coeur d’Alene.

Ken Roseboro, editor of the Organic and Non-GMO Report, will talk about the threat genetically modified foods can pose to human health, the environment and the integrity of organic foods. In his lecture, he’ll give an overview of genetically modified foods and discuss research on its effects. He’ll also talk about steps consumers can take to lobby for the labeling of such foods, avoid them and increase support for locally produced, organic foods.

Roseboro will sign copies of his book, “Food at Risk: Genetically Altered Foods and Your Health and The Organic Food Handbook.”

There is room for 90 people in the education center.
