Spokane skating still holds record

When Spokane hosted the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in January 2010, the event set an all-time record, with 158,000 attending. This year, the championships were held in Greensboro, N.C., Jan. 22 to Jan. 30. Attendance this year was 110,787, according to an announcement by U.S. Figure Skating spokeswoman Scottie Bibb. Greensboro’s WFMY News TV station reported that “organizers said they didn’t expect to break the record and they are happy with attendance.” In a press release today, the Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau reported the figures with this comment: “There is a reason Spokane was dubbed Skate City U.S.A.!” .
