Organizers needed for Tour des Lacs bike event

Organizers of the September Tour des Lacs bicycle tour are retiring from the effort, leaving doubts about the event’s scheduling this year.

Wendy Zupan Bailey and Gino Lisiecki of Round and Round Productions said increased competition from other September events has cut participation from a high of 950 a decade ago to about 420 last year.

“I’ve heard a group is looking into putting it on with an all-volunteer effort, but nothing’s certain, yet,” Zupan Bailey said.

The two-day event had numerous options for riders heading from Spokane to Coeur d’Alene and back, ranging from the Centennial Trail to back roads, including options for a party boat shuttle from the south end to north end of Lake Coeur d’Alene.

• The Munchen Haus Bike Ride out of Leavenworth has been cancelled for 2011, but the website (munchenhausbikeride.com) suggests it will be back in 2012.
