Waldo is back in Spokane.

The bespectacled boy in the red-and-white striped hat – the kid who has a knack for blending in with large crowds in the book series created by Martin Handford – is hanging out at Spokane businesses this month. Those who find him have a chance to win prizes.

The second “Find Waldo in Spokane” contest, sponsored by Auntie’s Bookstore, Candlewick Press and the American Booksellers Association, kicked off on July 1. Waldo has been hidden in 24 local businesses, from Atticus Coffee to Mobius Kids.

Participants can pick up a passport at Auntie’s, 402 W. Main Ave., or any of the participating merchants, then get their passport stamped each time they find Waldo in a store. The first 100 people to find Waldo in 10 or more sites are eligible for prizes from Auntie’s. Those who find Waldo in 20 or more locations will be entered into a drawing on July 31. YA author

Young adult author and filmmaker e.E. Charlton-Trujillo will be at Auntie’s at 7 p.m. July 16 to read from her latest novel, “Fat Angie.”

The story is about a girl who copes with the stress of having her sister being captured in Iraq by overeating. When a new girl transfers into her Ohio school, Angie gradually finds herself. The book received starred reviews from Publisher’s Weekly and the School Library Journal. Her first novel, “Prizefighter En Mi Casa,” won the Delacorte Dell Yearling Award and the Parents’ Choice Silver Honor prize.
