If you missed Ellen Travolta and Jack Bannon performing “Love Letters” at the University of Idaho in Moscow earlier this month, don’t worry. The acting couple will be bringing the show closer to home in May.

A.R. Gurney’s beloved play will be presented May 29, 30 and 31 at Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d’Alene as a benefit for the community theater company and the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Foundation.

The play is composed of letters written between two friends over the course of their lifetimes. Travolta and Bannon, veteran stage and screen actors who live in Coeur d’Alene, have performed it many times to great acclaim on local stages.

Honors for Bailey

Zuill Bailey, artistic director of the Northwest Bach Festival in Spokane, is being honored by his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University.

The cellist graduated from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins in 1994. Twenty years later, he has been named recipient of the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Award. The award, created in 1978, honors alumni for their humanitarian service, professional achievement or personal accomplishment.

Meanwhile, his latest CD, “Some Other Time,” recorded with pianist Lara Downes, will be released on April 29.
