Films also opening

Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman star in “The Railway Man.”

• “The Railway Man” is opening – for real – after being pulled at the last minute by the distributor last week.

The film stars Colin Firth as a former prisoner of war. Nicole Kidman is the wife who’s trying to figure out why he’s come unglued. Stellan Skarsgard and Jeremy Irvine also star.

• “The American Nurse” is a documentary that explores the roles nurses have played.

The Village Voice called it “a documentary about genuine human decency without kitsch.” The review continues: “Carolyn Jones’ portrait of five medical caregivers walks us through day-in, day-out sacrifices without ever coming off as sentimental or aggrandizing.”

It’s playing at the Magic Lantern in honor of National Nurses Week (1:21, unrated).
