Craig Demartino, a national adaptive champion and world-record climber, will speak at the launch of the Inland Northwest Adaptive Climbing Initiative on Oct. 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The event will be held at the Eastern Washington University Auditorium at the Riverpoint Campus (668 N. Riverpoint Blvd. Room No. 122). The presentation is free.

Demartino is a disabled climber who lost his right leg in 2002 when he was accidentally dropped 100 feet while climbing in Colorado.

He chose to have his leg amputated and climbs with a prosthetic. Demartino is an inspirational speaker and adaptive sports advocate.

“Climbing was one of the few things that stretched me out and made me feel good again,” Demartino said of his injury and getting back into climbing.
