Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day.

To celebrate, The Spokesman-Review is offering a sneak peek at its “100 Things to Do in Spokane Before You Die” book written by newspaper staff. The official publication date is Oct. 1.

The lively insider’s guide spotlights the best of Spokane’s dining, entertainment, recreation, shopping and culture. One of the 100 things to do is grab a great cuppa joe at one of the region’s local indie coffee shops. National Geographic Travel magazine named Spokane one of America’s top 10 small coffee cities for “the best caffeine fix” earlier this year.

The S-R’s “100 Things” book suggests starting with Good Food Award-winning Roast House, which specializes in organic, shade-grown coffees, and its First Avenue Coffee bar, which highlights high-quality, small-batch and exclusive roasts. Then, branch out and visit as many of the city’s 150-plus coffee shops and drive-thrus as you can.
