PEACH is trying to get the word out about two new markets that are meant to help low-income families eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.

The nonprofit People for Environmental Action and Community Health is offering a 40 percent discount to families who qualify at the PEACH Community Garden farm stand. PEACH is the parent agency for Fresh Abundance.

The farm stands can be found:

• Wednesdays, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook St. in Hillyard.

• Thursdays, 4 to 7 p.m. at the One World Café garden, behind 1804 E. Sprague Ave.

PEACH will sell produce from its community gardens and other vendors will be at the market.

The Hillyard market is held in conjunction with a grant from the Washington State Department of Health and is specifically geared toward WIC recipients. Shoppers can use WIC vouchers, EBT, debit, credit or cash.

Only those who pay with WIC or EBT will get the 40 percent discount. Other vendors at the market are not discounting prices.

The Hillyard market also features two cooking classes every Wednesday at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. to teach families simple recipes for using the produce they buy. The classes will be taught by Washington State University Extension Food Sense staff members.

The PEACH farm stand at One World Café will not be able to take WIC vouchers.
