Friday films: A dog, a treasure and Channing Tarum

I already wrote about “Drive My Car,” the Oscar-nominated Japanese film that is scheduled to open Friday at the Magic Lantern Theatre. But what about the mainstream theaters?
Well, so far, two films are on that calendar: “Uncharted” and “Dog.”
“Uncharted” : Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg star in this treasure-hunter action-thriller, with Holland playing the guy who gets hired to track down a lost fortune.
I found only two positive reviews for this film, directed by Ruben Fleischer and based on a team-written screenplay.
Michael O’Sullivan of the Washington Post wrote, “Far-fetched? Yes. Inconceivable, eye-rolling, absurd too. It also feels a bit unreasonable to expect anything more – or less – from ‘Uncharted.’ ”
Variety’s Owen Gleiberman wrote, “Watchable in a thin ‘Raiders of the Lost National Treasure of the Fast & Furious Caribbean’ way.”
“Dog” : Channing Tatum stars as a U.S. Army Ranger who embarks on a road trip that entails returning a service dog to its owner’s widow.
I found only one review, which usually isn’t a good sign – even if the single review is a good one.
Robbie Collin of UK’s The Telegraph wrote, “The new film Dog is essentially an hour and three quarters of Channing Tatum rolling around with a dog – and quite frankly, for many of us, that’s enough.”
I’ll update as the week progresses.
