State to dedicate Lombard ATV Trail

Idaho's state Department of Parks & Recreation will dedicate a new ATV/motorbike trail on Sept. 11 from the Land of the Yankee Fork State Park Interpretive Center to Bayhorse. The new 9-mile trail is named in honor of Ernie Lombard, a Boise architect and longtime state Parks Board member, and its current vice-chairman, who worked for more than 20 years to establish the trail. NEW TRAIL DEDICATED TO LONG-TIME IDAHO TRAIL ENTHUSIAST

CHALLIS – (September 11, 2010) The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) along with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be hosting a dedication ceremony for the newly constructed Lombard ATV/Motorbike trail. The trail is approximately nine miles long and begins at the Land of the Yankee Fork State Park Interpretive Center and ultimately connects to the Bayhorse area.

On September 11, 2010 IDPR and BLM will be holding this dedication and an ATV/Motorbike ride to formally introduce this new trail to the public.

The new Lombard trail is dedicated to honor the vision of Mr. Ernest J. Lombard and his diligence for more than 20 years to make it a reality.

IDPR, BLM, Great Basin Institute, Challis Area Chamber of Commerce, Local area ATV riders/clubs/State Association ATV club members and out of state ATV members will be present at the event.

Trail Dedication Ceremony

WHEN:           September 11, 2010, 9 a.m.
WHERE:         Land of the Yankee Fork Visitors Center (Main parking lot, corner of Highway 93 and Highway 75)
Those interested in attending the event and touring the trail should bring an ATV or Motorbike to ride, riding gear, (long pants and shirt, over the ankle boots, gloves, and helmet), water, and snacks.

Time Line of Events
9:00 a.m. – Welcome and Introductions - IDPR, BLM and Great Basin Institute
10:00 a.m. – Assemble in the Visitors Center parking lot.  Ride the new trail to the Bayhorse Town site.
12:00 p.m. – BBQ Lunch provided by the Challis Area Chamber of Commerce ($5 per person) at the Bayhorse Town site.
1:00 p.m. – Main tour group will travel back to the LOYF Visitors Center (all parties are welcome to ride on their own and explore the Bayhorse area).
