On the road early, and we’re the first ones at our eclipse-viewing spot…

Charlie Russell fly-fishes in the Henry's Fork river in eastern Idaho on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017. (Betsy Z. Russell)

We arrived early at our eclipse-watching spot this morning, allowing my husband time for a little fly-fishing. The road south from Henry’s Lake was uncharacteristically busy for 5:30 a.m. on a Monday, but with no holdups or delays; instead, everyone seemed to be in a hurry. License plates on the road: Texas, Arizona, Montana, Minnesota, and the ubiquitous Utah. We stopped for a cup of coffee at a Maverik, and while I was paying, a bus pulled in and disgorged dozens and dozens of Japanese tourists.

It’s chilly, quiet and peaceful here, for now…
