More Info: Beginning Monday, drivers could legally put studded tires on their vehicles, and with snow already forming on North Idaho mountain passes, winter driving conditions might come to an early start. The Idaho Transportation Department, however, discourages drivers from using studded tires unless they are warranted by extreme conditions. Mel Colter, ITD communications specialist, said driving studded tires on asphalt is bad for the road, bad for the tires and can be dangerous for drivers.
