Agony Of (Super Bowl) Defeat

I've thought a lot about that bonehead pass that cost the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl XLIX. I like the Seahawks, especially QB Russell Wilson (totally class act), even though I like the 49ers more. I was elated when Jermaine Kearse made that impossible catch while on his back moments before. We'd still be talking about that catch if the interception hadn't happened at the 1-yard-line. All of which brings me to the question: When do you get over a defeat like that. I don't think a true fan ever gets over something like that. Case in point. In 1962, when I was in the 8th grade at a Catholic school, the S.F. Giants lost the 7th game of the World Series to Bill Terry and the New York Yankees 1-0. With 2 outs in the 9th and runners at 2nd and 3rd, first baseman Willie McCovey (pictured in 1968 AP photo) crushed a ball toward right-center field. If the ball had been a few feet to either side of Bobby Richardson, the Giants would have won their first World Series in San Francisco. It wasn't. Game, set, match to the hated Yankees. I would have to wait 48 years more (in 2010) before the Giants won their first World Series in San Francisco. I, of course, have been in tall cotton sense because the Giants now have won the 2012 and 2014 series, too. However, I never forgot McCovey's almost-game-winning hit. And you won't forgot that play call either/DFO.
