Woolworth CdA

Photo Set (3 photos): At the Old School North Idaho Facebook page, followers are debating when Woolworth’s burned in downtown Coeur d’Alene. The store burned April 26, 1980, destroying $300,000 worth of merchandise. One of the commenters provided a link to a Spokane Chronicle article about the fire that destroyed Woolworth’s here. Keva Wolfe, who gets many of her photos from the Museum of North Idaho, provides three photos of the old Woolworth’s (front, inside and the day after it burned). It was originally opened in 1933 in the heart of the Great Depression. Coeur d’Alene residents were delighted that they could by merchandise for a nickel or a dime.
