Sam: Civility needed for progress

I appreciate this as I've actually been thinking about this a lot lately as it relates to HBO. I remember a time when there were some pretty negative folks here - a decade ago or so this was much more strained here. Some folks who couldn't play well with others decided to leave. Those same people took some of their fights public with opposition to some pretty amazing endeavors in the community.

I recall DFO calling these people the "howling, scowling, and growling" crowd. I want to be honest and polite, but I see some of that negativity here now, and it's caught me off guard a bit. I try to be a positive person, I believe the only way to make progress -- and particularly the only way to be a good public servant -- is to be positive and seek solutions. Being negative only hurts those I'm serving, and honestly it hurts internally, too.
