Love can pop up at the most surprising times. And in the most surprising ways.
That’s the theme behind “Walk With Me,” a film written and directed by Isabel del Rosal that opens Friday at the Magic Lantern Theatre.
Devin Dunne Cannon stars as Amber, a woman who leaves her husband and finds love with Logan (Bridget Barkan). Most of the reviews aren’t particularly positive, but I did find a few nice things in print.
Reviewer Paolo Kagaoan wrote, the film “eventually lets us understand Amber’s hesitations toward her coming out. And the film does it through her intrusive bourgeois mom who thinks all of this is a phase and she’ll find a man. But thankfully, the film doesn’t villainize her, Amber’s ex-husband, or anyone else in this rough diamond.”
Another reviewer, Emily Maskell , wrote, “The film’s soundtrack is composed of sixteen original songs by Amanda Walther, five of which are performed by Barkan, who has a stage presence you wish translated into the couple’s conversations.”
Yet a reviewer identified only as Ping was ecstatic. “This film covers a lot of ground but does so intricately with interwoven character arcs and a supportive lens on each character,” Ping wrote. “Some might find ‘Walk With Me’ a bit of a slow-build but I would say that it is gently paced, allowing the audience time to breathe in each moment whilst reflect upon each nugget of information so that we can appreciate each character and their motivations that much more.”
As always, though, the final vote belongs to you.
