Process servers walk in on assault

Two process servers arrived at a Colbert-area home Sunday to find the door kicked in and an assault in progress, police say.

Spokane County sheriff’s deputies arrested Jeffrey Lee Cox, 25, and Brandon Justin Fitzgerald, 21, on first-degree burglary and fourth-degree assault charges.

A couple who went to the home at 803 E. Silver Pine Road to serve papers to the victim said he saw the men exit the home and leave in a white Ford Expedition.

The victim suffered injuries to his face, according to police.

Cox and Fitzgerald were released from jail on their own recognizance after appearing in Superior Court on Monday.
