While driving in my car…
… I’ve taken to listening to Norah Jones. If that name doesn’t sound familiar to you, then the Grammys don’t mean anything to you.
Jones, whose smooth voice does magic to the jazz-oriented ballads she sings, won five Grammys on Sunday, including Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (“Don’t Know Why”) and Album of the Year (“Come Away With Me”).
I borrowed a CD of “Come Away With Me” from Joe Thomsen, owner of Joe’s Coffee and Pastries and an avid Jones fan. And Joe and I are of the same opinion: Yes it’s great that Jones is coming to Spokane (on Aug. 6).
But here’s the qualifier: A soft, intimate type of performer, Jones has a style that is more appropriate for The Met. Instead, she’ll be playing at the Opera House.
Ah, well, at least more people will have the chance to hear her.
