A quality threesome
Three days, three movies. Friday was “Rabbit-Proof Fence,” which we saw at Seattle’s Harvard Exit Theater. It’s a “based-on-a-true-story” study of three young Aborigine “half-caste” girls who, taken away from their families by government decree, walk more than a thousand miles across Australia to return home. Before going in, an older man (older than I, if that’s possible) told me, “Make sure to take some hankies.” Good suggestion.
Up Saturday was “City of God” (“Ciudade de Deus”), a Brazilian film about street kids in the 1970s. Considering how much bloodletting goes on, you might need some Handi Wipes for this one.
Finally, Sunday we took in “Roger Dodger,” which is part of the Cinema Art at The Met series. Campbell Scott plays a jerk and does a pretty good job at it (particularly as compared to his character’s 16-year-old nephew). What, was he channeling the cumulative characters played by his father, George C. Scott?
