Can’t find the flounder? Just call and ask

Dan

Came in this morning to one of those anonymous phone calls in which a person vents and then hangs up without leaving a name. Hey, fine. Vent all you want . I do it all the time. But if you do, have the courtesy to leave a name and a phone number so that someone can get back to you with an explanation.

The problem: In Friday’s Weekend section, on page 11, I mentioned the Brazilian film “City of God” as a Best Bet. OK so far. But because the film was playing second run (it opened April 11 at the NorthTown Cinemas), and because it wasn’t playing a regular run (only a special Sunday-Wednesday showing at The Met), it wasn’t listed under the regular film times. And so the caller was upset because, she said, she had “scoured” the paper and couldn’t find out when and where the film was playing. (Insert a disgusted sighing sound here.)

Well, it was listed in the Weekend Events section, which began on page 14, under the heading Films. And there, in black and white, was all the information needed: times, dates, location, prices. True, it wasn’t listed next to the review of “Finding Nemo,” but it wasn’t hidden under a dead flounder either.

All anyone with a problem ever needs to do is make one quick phone call , leave a contact number, and someone will do his or her best to call back with the requested information. Friday’s disgruntled reader could have had the answers she sought. Instead, anyone of you out there reading this is, from this moment on, probably more informed than you wanted to be.
