Ozzie Nelson, meet Homer Simpson

Dan

In the process of learning more about “The Osbournes,” the MTV show that shows the rock-star shrieker Ozzy Osbourne at home with his wife Sharon and their two children, Kelly and Jack, I stumbled across the MTV site that offers a bit of interactive fun.

One, you can Ask Ozzy anything. Example: Type in a question such as, “Are you truly the Prince of Darkness?” and Ozzy is likely to say (as he did when I asked just that question), “Well, whaddaya want me t’do about it?” If you’ve seen the show, you’ll realize that response is pretty much what he might say.

Two, want to see the layout of the Osbourne mansion? Go to Tour the House and you can get a room-by-room look at everything from Ozzy’s room (complete with a urinal, for reasons made clear on the site) to Kelly’s room (on the walls of which she once had hung pictures of Sharon Tate).

Now in its second season, “The Osbournes” is bizarre yet strangely mundane. In much the same way that “The Sopranos” (which has its own Web site interactive features) shows the daily, suburban life of a New Jersey mob boss, “The Osbournes” exposes the everyday life of a married heavy-metal rock star with children. Ozzy’s family is both average and strange at once, but love always seems to carry the day. If this is reality television, give me more of it.
