Reality is a relative notion, eh, Einstein?

Dan

“Such is the conclusion of a history which I cannot expect everybody to believe, for some people will believe nothing against the testimony of their own experience. However, I am indifferent to their incredulity, and they may believe as much or as little as they please.” Jules Verne , “Journey to the Center of the Earth”

Verne had the right idea: The only way to approach imaginative fiction is to suspend your disbelief. And so it is with film, especially films such as “The Core.” Written by a couple of guys, first-time screenwriter Cooper Layne and former television writer John Rogers (“Cosby”), “The Core” involves a mission to drill to the core of the Earth so that our gallant six-person crew can use nuclear weapons to restart the Earth’s interior spin.

Ignore the scientific absurdity of the film, and you just might enjoy yourself. If nothing else, it does prove that Aaron Eckhart has the Capt. Kirk clause (meaning that he gets to take his shirt off whenever he wants) and that Hilary Swank can bring just the right amount of smoldering intensity to what any other actress would consider a throw-away role.

As DJ Qualls’ character Rat would say, Swank has strong kung fu. If you know how to say that in French, e-mail me.
