Love, and NOISE, were all around

Dan

Three minutes from the closing of last night’s 7:30 showing of “Love Actually,” the woman sitting over one seat answered her cell phone. Not only did she answer it, but she proceeded to talk.

To be fair, it didn’t ring (she must have had it on vibrate), and she leaned down and talked in a low voice. But I noticed. And this was coming during the final frames of the film, when all that good Richard Curtis feeling was washing off the screen. I was distracted.

What is it with people? Do they think that every movie theater is their own living room? I already sit in the back rows of whatever AMC house that I’m in because although I love stadium seating , I’m sick and tired of people either kicking the back of my seat or putting their feet up and jiggling the whole row. I hear people talking in virtually every show I attend, some of them at normal volume. One guy who sat behind me at a Regal Cinemas theater recently ate his popcorn louder than it must have sounded to pop it.

Sorry Jack Valenti , but more and more, I’m thinking that home video is the only way to go.
