Already got an irate phone call re. my story on Saturday night’s Get Lit! program at The Met, which featured Lynda Barry and Kurt Vonnegut . The caller said that Vonnegut “should be shot” for the backstage comments he made re. “sleeping with children.” . Note to caller: It was a joke. In a world that has priests and celebrities sleeping with children, it’s the job of a gadfly social critic to say outrageous things so that such despicable acts will be brought out into the light where they belong. Does Vonnegut REALLY sleep with children? Doubtful. Very doubtful. Even on Tralfamadore , sentient beings know that is wrong.
