They’re all burnin’ to hear Sherman
Speaking of Sherman Alexie (see below), the Wellpinit -born writer is a master of self-promotion. And, believe me, he would accept that as a compliment, which is how I mean it. That doesn’t mean, of course, that he lacks anything as an artist. He’s an accomplished poet, novelist, filmmaker , one whom the critics love to love , and if you’ve ever heard him perform in person you know just how good of a speaker he is. I just mean to say that he was one of the first writers I know of who jumped on the Internet to sell himself. If you want to get a good introduction to Sherman and who he is, pick up a copy of his poetry/story collection “The Business of Fancydancing.” Sherman may go on to do great things. He might win a National Book Award, a Pulitzer, even a Nobel . But I doubt he’ll ever write anything better than this little 84-page book. He’d probably agree, if you promised to buy a copy.
