The Slice: Talk about your wrong numbers

For today’s nugget of lifestyle guidance, we turn to Slice reader Caroline Baker.

“As a first time owner of a cell phone, I learned a big lesson about why one shouldn’t drive and talk on the phone,” she wrote.

And she wasn’t even in her car.

Baker was in a grocery store, talking to her husband on her new phone. An older man with a stern expression started putting items in her cart.

She was about to say something when she realized she had gotten confused. She was holding onto the wrong shopping cart. It was the old guy’s cart.

“I could just imagine him thinking ‘Another crazy driver on her cell phone.’ “

“Spelling bee loser: Myrna Tarnasky sent today’s featured snapshot. She took it at a bridge near a rails-to-trails bike route in North Idaho, between Harrison and Medimont.

“I think it should be titled ‘Onley in Idaho,’ ” she wrote.

“Pop quiz: Match the song title with the performer. (The answers are just a few lines away, so be prepared to cover them up.)

“This sort of thing happens all the time: Kim Plese of Spokane lost a not inexpensive gold bracelet at Silverwood. But someone discovered it and turned it in to Lost and Found.

She says thanks.

“I realized it had been a mistake to go skinny dipping when: “As we got out of the water, we heard clapping and whistling (from a party-boat crowded with tourists),” wrote Kathy Hickman.

“Slice answer: Moses Lake’s Tracy Nickels asked her brother what his first words would have been if he had been the first person to set foot on the Moon. His answer? “Whoa.”

“Viewing tip: Slice reader Susan Bowen is pleased that the Hallmark Channel has included “Northern Exposure” in its weeknight lineup. “Only trouble is that it’s at 1 a.m.,” she wrote.

But she considers it worth recording.

Here is The Slice’s ranking of that show’s nine main characters, listed in order of appeal.

1. Maggie O’Connell. (Hey, what did you expect?) 2. Ed Chigliak. 3. Marilyn Whirlwind. 4. Dr. Joel Fleischman. 5. Holling Vincoeur. 6. Maurice Minnefield. 7. Ruth-Anne Miller. 8. Chris Stevens. 9. Shelly Tambo.
