Another night of paging success
It’s a little intimidating to sit on a stage with five writers, facing another 60 or so people – 90 percent of whom also are writers – and try to lead a discussion about … writing. Last night, at Auntie’s Bookstore , I moderated a Get Lit! 2005 panel discussion with Terry Bain , Laurie Winn Carlson , Kelly Milner Halls , Jonathan Johnson and Jerry Sittser . I asked them questions such as what were their favorite books as children and how did those books affect their writing, what was it like to be a writer in Spokane and so far from the New York publishing houses and what was their favorite color .
That last one is a joke (not to mention a visual riddle). I wish, however, that someone had thought of recording the evening. Because each one of these writers had smart and clever things to say about the craft that they practice.
I’d have written down what they were but I was a little busy. I’d pass on what I remember but I was having trouble remembering my own name. I’d try to invent something but I don’t have that good an imagination.
Maybe I’ll put it all in a novel some day.
