Wild Card/Saturday — 12/3/05

A quick note to say how much I’ve been enjoying the little Catholic community that checks in on this blog. JBelle , her Pup, Milt Nelson, Kale, MikeK etc. I’m a cultural Catholic — raised in the church in the Latin days, dropped out at 16 for 6 years of hell raisin’, and then returned to the faith, albeit Evangelical, at age 22 as the result of a life-transforming spot news assignment as a rookie reporter involving a bus wreck that killed 5 kids. Mebbe I’ll tell you about it someday. But back to my point. I enjoy the fondness and devotions our HBO Catholics have for their faith. In fact, I appreciate the different perspectives offered by people of faith here, including liberal Christians. (Side nod to GreenL.) I’ve been learning from you. Then, I’ve seen generally that we agree with each other more often than we don’t. Mebbe that’s the value of HBO. Rather than shouting at each other all the time, as letter writers do on the editorial page, we have a dialogue here, which is sometimes passionate but more often geared toward making friendships and understanding. But I’m getting maudlin here. And you need your Wild Card …
