No matter what Tom Cruise says …
People should take a second to think before they pick up the phone. I wrote a column Friday that attempted to list the film that had been shot in the immediate vicinity. Most were in and around Spokane, from “Vision Quest” to “Benny & Joon,” with a few others from farther away – “Dante’s Peak,” for example, which was shot in Wallace.
We wanted to make the exercise, which began when reader Craig Baker sent in the list that he had been working on, interactive with other readers. So at the end of the column, I added a note for anyone to join in. If you had a film, call us and let us know. Maybe get your name in the paper.
So what kind of a message do I get? Some guy, who did leave his name and phone number, saying that he’s read the list and was “shocked, appalled and disgusted ” that we’d left off probably the biggest-name film ever shot in the region: “Heaven’s Gate.”
Surprised I can buy. Disappointed, even. But “appalled”? “Disgusted”? Knock, knock: Is that Micheal Cimino calling? Somebody needs to seriously check his meds. Or get a life.
