Question of the Day — 7/7/05

Issue: Four London blasts kill 40, injure 350: al Qaida of Europe claims responsibility for slaughter /Jane Wardell, Associated Press (Above: The wrecked double decker bus near Tavistock Square after an explosion in central London today/APhoto).

DFO: Another horrible reminder of the hate and viciousness that inspires the enemies of freedom. The only thing they understand is to kill or be killed. Coddling them doesn’t work.

Question: What is the best strategy for stopping religious terrorists who are willing to die to kill indiscriminately?

Feedback: THM is right - find and kill the fanatics - period. We also have to keep doing the job of “draining the swamp” to quote President Bush, by trying to remove the reasons they get recruits. There are many strategies to do so, better articulated by others than by me, but we can’t ignore the very real gap between vast wealth and abject poverty in the world as it exists. And finally we have to stop coddling repressive regimes like those in Saudi Arabia whose people hate them and link us to them - can anyone say “real national energy policy that ISN’T oil-focused?” — Mike Kennedy.
