Peanut Gallery — Now, He Understands

At last we learn. Duncan had a lethal weapon at his disposal, a great aid in tying up people who might otherwise resist. Odd that he didn’t use it to kill his victims. Perhaps he didn’t want to arouse attention, with loud explosions in the night. Clever.

Now, I hope the sheriff of Kootenai County, quite unlike the sheriff and police in Spokane (city and county) will not permit functionaries of the press to interview Duncan in the jail, or anyplace at any time prior to the completion of his trial. It has been so distressing to see reporters giving jailed criminals face time on our TV screens, and opportunities to tell their stories directly to the public. Damned foolish, and in my opinion a grave disservice to the cause of justice.

DFO: The citizen part of me doesn’t want to see Duncan get any face time. It humanizes the scumbag. I’d rather see the focus remain on Shasta and her dead family. But the journalist side of me wonders what makes this slime tick and whether there’s lessons in criminal activity that can be learned from him.
