A clarification…
“7” columnist Frank Sennett reports in his blog that Kevin Taylor’s sources on Joseph Duncan’s camcorder are official investigators, and not bloggers.
Features editor Pia Hansen received four calls over the weekend from readers regarding an earlier post on Taylor’s Inlander story. The post was recapping a discussion that took place in a news meeting on whether we had enough information on whether Duncan had a camcorder with him to report it ourselves. The readers interpreted the post as impugning the integrity of Taylor’s reporting.
The summary of our newsroom discussion is in and of itself accurate - at the time of the posting, we didn’t have enough information on the camcorder to report it ourselves, and the wording of the Inlander piece didn’t make it clear where the information came from.
However, the wording of the post makes it sound like we’re accusing Taylor of using the bloggers as a source for the camcorder. While that is a possibility that we discussed, it was by no means a conclusion, and I apologize for any confusion.
