Question of the Day — 7/27/05

Issue: Papers pull ‘Doonesbury’ over potty put-down: Others editing comic strip featuring Rove’s nickname ‘Turd Blossom’ /Associated Press. (You can find the controversial strip here and a subsequent one here .)

DFO: Dubya calls Rove “Turd Blossom”? Funny. I don’t think I’d have pulled Garry Trudeau’s comic strip for repeating that. It simply gives the guy more publicity, and everyone will go on line to see it anyway. On the other hand, I’ve never followed Doonesbury. My interest in comics waned when the Far Side called it a day.

Question: When, if ever, should an Editor pull a cartoonist’s work from the paper?
