Thanksgiving leftovers
City editor Carla Savalli praised the newsroom staff for a well-executed holiday weekend plan. We had a lot of stories written and ready to go early in the week, some of which will run today and tomorrow. “We had all the elements in place, and that’s the way you want to do it,” she said.
Also, readers may have noticed a Sunday page one that was devoid of death and destruction, not an easy thing to pull off when two of the four stories are about the war.
On to the next holiday…
The morning meeting also served as a pep rally of sorts for this year’s Christmas Fund , which is expected to hit the $10 million mark (total for all years). “The better coverage we give to the Christmas Fund, the higher the donations,” Savalli said. Look for more stories that focus on people - beneficiaries and donors alike - to put a human face on the annual charity drive.
Errata
The Christmas Fund photo on Sunday’s page A15, purportedly taken in 1968, has what looks to be about a 1977 Buick or Pontiac in the foreground - we’re double-checking the year. Also, some questioned the figures in the graphic that ran with the “Spokane Discount” story showing a population of 162,197 for Spokane County in 1990. That figure is most likely for the city, not the county as a whole.
