Wild Card/Tuesday — 10/4/05

I’m still mulling the “Oprah” show with Steve Groene this afternoon. (You can find a trailer to that show here .) I’m not emotional. But I noticed my eyes were threatening to leak. There was nothing new about the information re: the show. But seeing Oprah Winfrey compellingly bringing all facets of the horrific crime visited on this local family was powerful. She did a sensitive job with the information. And was right to say it’s time we do something about the violent sex predators. I don’t agree with her one-strike-and-you’re-out approach to all sex offenders. Too much gray there. But I agree with her that we keep letting these guys prey on children because most of the crime is happening to someone else’s child or children. They’re all our children. Mebbe this show will start a movement to get many of these guys off the streets for good. I’ll have more on this subject tomorrow.
