First, you should know that the Salvation Army is having trouble coming up with bell-ringers for the Christmas holidays because — drum roll, please — our unemployment rate is so low it can’t find takers. Onward. Mayor Sandi Bloem is stepping into the breach by asking her Community Center Ad Hoc committee members to volunteer for two- or three-hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 26 thru Dec. 24, to make up the difference. Her goal is to make up some 60 hours to help out the Salvation Army, which is on the brink of naming Coeur d’Alene as one of the winners of a $29 million block grant to build a Community Center. The ring-a-ding sites eyed by Sandi are at Shopko and Hayden’s Albertson’s. Girl Friday Victoria Bruno can answer any questions at 769-2204.
