Poll dancing
Results of a poll of registered voters conducted on behalf of the S-R and KREM-TV will be released today. Political reporter Jim Camden says it may be one of the most extensive political polls ever conducted in Spokane - more than 1,100 respondents with a margin of error of 3% (margins of error around 5% are more typical, he said. On thin ice
Editors felt today’s story on Spokane’s bid for the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships was a good recovery from an awkward flow of information into the newsroom. We had reported a couple days ago that the city was vying for a “major sports event,” then found out the following day that the Olympian knew what that event was. The story itself is clearly Page One material, but not necessarily on the hook of Gregoire’s announcment alone. Hilary Kraus’s story today focuses on the bigger picture: the ambition of local promoters trying to land a world-class event.
Scavenger hunt
Good luck finding today’s IN Life and Home sections - a note on the front page directs readers in the right direction, but they’re still tough to find amongst the ads. Same goes for the Sunday Region and Business sections. “You just can’t turn down the advertising these days,” Steve Smith said. Even if it poses a logistical challenge.
Those who were unable to hunt down the Home section today missed editor Pia Hansen’s substitution of “utter,” as in to say, with “udder,” as in the part of the cow where the milk comes from, an error for which she most humbly apologizes. Those of you who’ve never confused a homonym may now line up to cast the first stone.
On a more serious note, though, related to the Home section - the ad on page 5 for Alderwood Estates wasn’t properly labeled as such. We have a policy of clearly labeling all ads that are designed to look like editorial content. Due to an internal miscommunication, this one wasn’t. Won’t happen again, we’re told.
