Mailbag: What To Do About Kids?

Holly: Just for context, for those who don’t know, I’m 18. So I’m in this age group, I guess. There is not so much for people of my age to do in this area. My friends and I like going to the park or down to the lake to hang out. We don’t mean to be a nuisance. I guess the community and tourists have to make a choice: Do they want kids outside in the park or inside drinking alcohol because they can’t find much else to do and they apparently aren’t welcome anywhere else. And my friends and I would enjoy it if jazz or classical music was played outside. Of course, I know not all people my age will agree …

DFO: The kids are safe until downtown Coeur d’Alene’s high-rises, current and future, attracts enough rich year-round residents to complain. At that point, the city will have to choose between the taxpayers and the loiterers. And the loiterers will lose. Until then, I don’t think much’ll be done about the problem as long as the kids don’t harass Coeur d’Alene Resort guests.
