Take me to the river

This morning’s page one centerpiece was actually inspired by a Video Journal piece by Colin Mulvany. The slideshow was posted last Friday, but Steve Smith liked it so much he asked yesterday for a better way to promote it from the newspaper. Initially, we discussed just running a standalone photo, but there were enough questions about the spring runoff that Mike Prager was able to write a full story.

The lead story

Senior editor Carla Savalli said the General Store story was more relevant to Spokane readers than NIC’s cadaver , and would have been a better choice for the top of the page. Smith acknowledged the point, but said that because KXLY broke the story Monday night, it was better played lower on the page.
