Jumping to conclusions?
Reporter Tom Clouse raised a question about this morning’s lead headline: “Shades of al Qaida.” It is not yet known who is behind the attacks, Clouse said, so why would we make that connection?
Others interpreted the headline as drawing an appropriate parallel to 9/11, and senior editor Carla Savalli said that it was a good way to spin the story forward now that the news was more than 24 hours old.

You’d think it would be hard to find something wrong with a story about volunteering . Nice people doing nice things. Good news for a change, right?
Intern Shadra Beesley got a phone call from someone upset with her mentioning the work that the Coast Guard Auxiliary did at the Long Bridge Swim in Sandpoint. The caller said that she should have mentioned everybody who volunteered for the event.
“We often get those kind of calls when people feel they’ve been left out,” said managing editor Gary Graham. The story wasn’t about the Long Bridge Swim, he said, so there was no need for a comprehensive list of volunteers.
