When an article proclaiming Spokane as the city with the nation’s highest insurance premiums appeared in Sunday’s Parade magazine, we immediately started getting emails from readers wanting more information. Steve Smith asked this morning whether today’s story cleared things up.

Editors generally agreed that the story provided a great deal of depth, especially considering the quick turnaround.

Assistant city editor David Wasson that the flaw of the study cited in Parade was oversimplification. “Maybe they went a little too simple to draw such concrete conclusions.”

Another issue (raised by me) was whether companies do these surveys solely as a marketing technique to get their brand names into the media for free.

Incidentally, we have no control over the editorial content of Parade magazine - it’s a paid insert (i.e., we make money by having it distributed with the Sunday paper).

A story in today’s paper, headlined ” Prosecutor race focuses on Zehm ,” was based on comments made by the candidates at a Spokesman-Review editorial board meeting, which Smith said should have been mentioned in the story.
