And we have a winner (that was quick). Marty Demarest , the former producer at Spokane Public Radio now freelance writer, wrote the following:

The sketch is from Monty Python. “ The Dead Parrot Sketch” is its title. It starred John Cleese and Michael Palin as the customer Mr. Praline and the shop owner, respectively. It begins with one of them trying to return a dead bird, and ends with them hooking up.

In terms of writing, it’s rather lowbrow comedy – a list of euphemisms about death, then a line that calls a spade a spade instead of a digging implement. Monty Python was capable of much better , but the mainstream public wasn’t. It is still one of their most popular, frequently quoted sketches.
