Ah’m Your Huckleberry …

A Spokane woman called the downtown office this week to complain about thousands of stinky, dead fish near the Higgens Point viewing area where she went to see the eagles. The stench was so horrid she had to leave, not getting to enjoy the eagles. She wanted us to do a story about it. So, assistant city editor Dave Wasson called Erica Curless to check into it. Erica tells Huckleberries: “I thought it was odd, especially since the eagles are here to eat the fish, but I called Fish and Game.” The woman who answered the phone seemed somewhat amused. Sez she: “That’s the whole point! The kokanee die, which attracts the eagles.” Duh! Not everyone in the Northwest is familiar with our circle of life.
