Late-breaking story
Word that an Ephrata soldier was killed in Iraq over the weekend came in to the newsroom about 5 p.m. yesterday, which is pretty late in the day to turn around a page one story. Editors praised Amy Cannata’s work in turning around the story in a short amount of time. In addition to covering transportation, Cannata will also be covering the military, part of a shuffling of newroom beats that is currently under way.
Editors also liked Virginia de Leon’s coverage of Eid Al-Adha and Hilary Kraus’ story on the nuts and bolts of the Figure Skating Championships in St. Louis. In addition to filing stories for the paper, Kraus is doing research so we can better understand the logistics of the event when it comes to Spokane.
