Imbibe this ‘Juice’! It’s good for you
One of the most entertaining film Web sites that you’re apt to find online is MovieJuice . The creation of L.A.-based comedy writer Mark Ramsey , MovieJuice is not only funny but it’s refreshingly acerbic in the face of Hollywood pretension.
The strength of MovieJuice is Ramsey’s movie reviews. Reading them is like listening to someone doing a stand-up routine that includes one sharp-but-smart comment after the next.
For example, he makes a case that “Hostel” is the worst film of 2006 – even though the year has barely started – for one reason because it’s so cheap. “(I)t was,” he says, “shot in the Czech Republic, a place where a buck will buy you an ocean view villa - if only you didn’t have to cross several sovereign nations and a couple thousand miles to find an ocean.”
He laments
in his review of “Aeon Flux”
that Charlize Theron and her friends live in “a future with neither freedoms nor NASCAR merchandise, and I think I speak for many when I say I don’t know which is worse.”
He describes Gwyneth Paltrow’s character in “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” as “the tough-as-nails reporter who illustrates why Donna Reed never got the Barbara Stanwyck roles. What a tepid doll, yo!”
But he also does interviews, which is one benefit of his living in L.A. (To access them you have to download RealPlayer, but make sure to opt for the free one ).
In his 2002 talk with “Final Destination” star Devon Sawa, we actually get to see Sawa toss a Frisbee down a hotel corridor. He arm wrestled Shannyn Sossamon , who was doing publicity for her 2001 film “A Knight’s Tale, and we get to see the skinny Sossamon – who holds her own for much of the 40-second sequence – say, “You suck.”
You can find Ramsey on other media, everywhere from VH1 to CNN , but nothing beats his own site. Top get on his e-mail list, click here .
I recently sent him a bunch of questions that ranged from “Do you love movies or would you rather live in Philadelphia?” to “Which actress has the nicest breasts?” He was nice enough to play along. To read his answers, click here.
And prepare to smile.

the
Angelina Jolie at one of the many movie junkets he attends. “Yes,” he says, “I have lots more pictures like this with lots more people who don’t know who I am.”
