Have Idaho Demos Seized The Middle?
“Proof that Democrats can appeal to moderate and independent Idahoans comes from an unexpected source, the Idaho Association of Realtors, which commissioned a poll in December to share with GOP lawmakers. The poll found education the top priority, a typical result. But there also was this: 71 percent want reform of sales, property and income taxes; 65 percent favor expanding the homeowner’s property-tax exemption; 64 percent would raise the sales tax a penny were it earmarked for teacher pay; 54 percent want counties to collect sales tax to cut property taxes; and 52 percent support higher impact fees to pay for growth. On all those issues, the GOP’s squarely on the other side.”
