Destination: Detroit

Sports editor Joe Palmquist is working on getting credentials for a reporter and columnist to go to Detroit to cover the Super Bowl. Apart from that, though, we’re not going overboard on coverage. We’re not sending a photographer, nor are we sending Doug Clark, whose effort to get in on the action was rebuffed by Steve Smith.

Reining in the visuals

Gary Graham felt that the giant word-hunt graphic on Sunday’s IN Life cover wasn’t as effective as it could be, and Smith said that oversize art elements will be a thing of the past when the newspaper goes to a narrower size this year. With space at a premium, he said, smaller photos and illustrations will be essential to maintaining our level of news coverage.
