Sara: Duct-Tape Protests Are Passe

Sara Anderson: So, this is off-topic, but isn’t the duct-tape-over-the-mouth-protest-statement getting a little passe? Can’t they go with a time-tested classic, like the flaming effigy? Or maybe come up with something new?

DFO: I was thinking the same thing. Boring. On the other hand, it’s rare for journalists to take to the streets to fight newsroom injustice. I regularly see photos from all over the world protesting any number of things. They wear tape over their mouths. Masks. Few are interesting. The PETA protesters catch people’s attention because they occasionally protest in the semi-nude. We could be in trouble of that kind of protest catches on. Most journalists I know wouldn’t look good nude. Mebbe we should be thankful that the Santa Barbara crew opted for duct tape?
